Funerals & Celebrations of Life
Honouring a unique journey with dignity, warmth, and sincerity.

A Gentle, Dignified Goodbye
Saying goodbye to someone you love is one of life’s most challenging chapters. During such a sensitive time, you shouldn’t have to fit your memories into a rigid, standard script.
Your loved one’s final send-off should be as unique, beautiful, and meaningful as the life they lived.
As an independent celebrant, my role is to stand beside you and carry the weight of structuring the service. Whether you are planning a traditional funeral, a quiet cremation, an interment of ashes, or an uplifting celebration of life, I am here to help you navigate the process.
Together, we will create a farewell that truly captures their essence, their humor, and their lasting legacy.
Services Designed Around You
A unique life deserves a unique farewell, there is no standard script for grief.
There are no rigid templates, standard expectations, or conveyor-belt services here. Whether you are saying an unexpected goodbye, planning an intimate cremation for your closest family, or organising a vibrant celebration filled with laughter and favourite memories, we will design a comforting service that feels entirely right for them, and completely supportive of you.

Funerals & Cremations
A beautifully structured, compassionate service at a crematorium, cemetery or natural burial ground. We balance tears with fond memories, ensuring the tribute feels authentic and deeply respectful.

Celebrations of Life
A more informal, uplifting gathering focused entirely on the joy, laughter, and stories your loved one left behind. These can be held at unique local venues or family homes.

Memorials & Ashes
A dedicated time to scatter or inter ashes, or a standalone memorial service held weeks or months later, giving you the time and space to reflect without rushing.
Weaving the Story Together
Crafting a deeply personal tribute through the things they loved most.

The Tribute (Eulogy)
Written entirely from scratch based on your family’s favourite memories, capturing their personality, achievements, and unique spirit.
Music & Reflection
Total freedom to choose songs that truly meant something to them, whether that’s a traditional hymn, a favourite classical piece, or a classic rock anthem.
Poetry & Readings
Integrating meaningful verses, cultural traditions, or allowing family members and friends a safe, structured space to speak if they wish.
A Ready Smile & Steady Guide
I bring deep sincerity and a calm, articulate presence to the podium, holding the space beautifully so you can focus on remembering.
Our Journey Together
A calm, steady path through the planning.
1.
The initial connection
Whether you reach out to me directly or ask your chosen Funeral Director to contact me, I will be responsive, gentle, and ready to support you from the very first moment.
2.
A gentle conversation
We will sit down together, either in the comfort of your home or over a quiet video call so you can tell me all about your loved one. There is no rush; we will simply talk through their life, their quirks, and what made them special.
3.
Writing the tribute
I will craft a completely bespoke service script from scratch. I offer unlimited edits and will send the draft back and forth with you until every word, story, and tone feels completely accurate and right.
4.
Seamless coordination
I will liaise directly with your Funeral Director, the crematorium, or the venue to manage all the practical details and timings. You don’t have to worry about the logistics, I have them entirely taken care of.
5.
A warm, supportive service
On the day, I will be a calm, steady presence, delivering the ceremony with dignity, warmth, and absolute sincerity. Afterwards, I will provide your family with a beautiful digital keepsake copy of the script.
My Promise to You
I will hold your hand through the difficult moments, manage the moving parts behind the scenes, and ensure their unique story is told with the absolute love, dignity, and respect it deserves.
Let’s honour them together
When you are ready, please get in touch. We can have a quiet, confidential conversation to figure out how to give your loved one the perfect final send-off.

Questions & Answers
What are your fees for a funeral or celebration of life service?
Fees for a beautifully tailored farewell start from £250. This covers my gentle and thorough consultation with your family, crafting a completely bespoke tribute script from scratch with unlimited revisions, seamless coordination with your Funeral Director or venue, and delivering the service with absolute warmth, dignity, and respect on the day. I am committed to complete transparency, and a final fee will be clearly outlined based on the specific type and length of service you require.
Do we have to use the celebrant provided by the Funeral Director?
No, you always have the final choice. While Funeral Directors regularly suggest celebrants they know, you are fully entitled to choose your own. Simply let them know that you would like Hazel Edwards to officiate your service, and I will handle all the direct coordination and paperwork with them on your behalf.
Can we include religious elements like a hymn or a prayer?
Absolutely. Unlike a standard civil registrar who is restricted by law from including religious content, an independent celebrant offers complete freedom. If you would like to include the Lord’s Prayer, a favourite traditional hymn, a spiritual reading, or keep the service entirely secular, the choice is completely yours.
What happens if a family member wants to speak but is worried they might get too upset?
This is very common, and I am here to support them. We can structure the service so they speak early on, or I can have a copy of their words standing by at the podium. If they feel unable to continue on the day, I can seamlessly step in and read the rest of their tribute for them, ensuring their voice is still heard.
How long is a standard funeral ceremony?
A standard crematorium slot usually allows for a ceremony lasting around 25 to 30 minutes, which we will carefully space out with music, readings, and the tribute. If you feel you need a longer service, we can easily arrange to book a double slot at the venue, or host a standalone Celebration of Life at a local venue with no time constraints.
Can we hold a Celebration of Life somewhere other than a crematorium or church?
Yes, entirely. A Celebration of Life or a Memorial Service doesn’t have the same restrictions as a traditional funeral. You can host it in your own back garden, a local village hall, a favourite pub, a hotel, or an outdoor woodland area. Removing the clinical setting often makes it much easier to focus on sharing fond memories and stories.
What is a “Natural Burial ground” and do you officiate there?
Natural or green burial grounds are beautiful, eco-friendly sites often set in peaceful meadows or woodlands, where burials take place using biodegradable materials. I am incredibly proud to officiate services at natural burial grounds, tailoring a gentle, earthy farewell that aligns perfectly with the serene surroundings.
